The "Leadership for Africa" (LfA) scholarship program supports young refugees and national academics from Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Niger, Nigeria, and Togo at German higher education institutions by helping them improve academically. This program aims to aid in the education of future leaders, who will be crucial for the continued growth of their home nations during a period of violence and displacement in several African countries. Scholarships for Master's degrees in Germany are available through "Leadership for Africa" to qualifying candidates in all fields of study, with the exception of medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, law, the arts, and architecture. All recipients of "Leadership for Africa" scholarships gain access to a complimentary training program in civil society, good governance, and career development. DAAD Leadership for Africa's Objectives and Benefits Scholarship Program for Masters

The scholarship consists of:


Before beginning university studies, take a German language course in Germany for up to six months.

A public or state-recognized institution in Germany will provide a tuition-free M.A. or M.Sc. degree program beginning in the winter term of 2024 (September/October 2024).

The funding's duration


In general, chosen students will begin their German language study as early as April 2024 and begin their studies at a German higher education institution by around October 1st, 2024. The standard time of study for the program of choice determines the length of funding. Typically, two years of full-time study are needed for qualified Master's programs.


Value

Prior to the start of the study program, a 6-month German language course in Germany that includes housing, pocket money, and the testing costs for a TestDaF or DSH certificate in the language. (only during the language course). Depending on study requirements and German language proficiency, the DAAD determines whether to sponsor participation and for how long. It is required to take a language course.

Please be aware that throughout the course of may family reunions be delayed or even impossible due to the length of time it takes to obtain a visa for various home or host countries.


DAAD Leadership for Africa requirements Program for Master's Scholarships Qualification

Having successfully completed a Bachelor's degree at the time of application that satisfies German university standards for admission to a Master's degree program.

It is necessary to have a bachelor's degree with at least a second-class upper division.

In general, the last academic degree should not have been completed more than six years ago (see Important Information for Scholarship Applicants / Section A, Point 2).

German or English language proficiency

For refugees: a copy of their identification card from before April 3, 2022.

Date, Procedure, and Location of the DAAD Leadership for Africa Master's Scholarship Program Interviews

Based on the application materials supplied, a pre-selection will be made.
Only applications that are complete and include all required documentation will be reviewed.
An independent selection committee of university professors will invite preselected candidates to a (digital) interview.
The primary selection criterion, in addition to prior academic accomplishments (Bachelor's degree), language proficiency, and general motivation, is a persuasive description of the intended studies in Germany and the appropriate selection of study programs in the DAAD form "Study course profile."
Social factors, such as unique living circumstances, migration history, or students from non-academic backgrounds, can play a part in ensuring equal chances. criteria like your level of social involvement You may include information in the application form, which is also taken into consideration.

Curriculum vitae, no longer than three pages, detailing your academic background to date, any scholarships you have received, your current address, and any employers you have worked for recently. At https://europa.eu/europass/en, please use the European specimen form.
One to three pages long, your letter of motivation should give a detailed explanation of your academic, professional, and personal motivations for the intended research topic. Read Section B, Point 1 of our Important Scholarship Information for further information.
Completed "Study course profile" form for the DAAD (please include 3 Master's programs). Please be advised that the DAAD does not take into account your proposals for master's programs with tuition requirements. It is important to keep this in mind while selecting the master's programs. Please take note of the instructions for completing the "Study course profile" form. Every year, changes to the form are possible; thus, only use the link above to access the most recent version.
Only applicants who can persuasively explain why they want to get another master's degree will be taken into consideration, whether they already have a master's degree or are working toward one. Kindly complete the "Additional Master's Degree" form.
Proof of language proficiency required for the desired master's programs. Please read Section A, Point 9 of our critical information for scholarship applicants for more details. University degree certificate with final grade(s) and transcripts for all study years with each each grade together with a description of the grading system
Copies of your passport/national identification card, copies of the biodata page of your passport/national identification card, and any other documents that provide details about you and your place of residence at the time of application.
Regarding refugees: a refugee ID card, UNHCR registration, or formal government or authority proof of asylum.
Optional: Additional files that may be relevant to your application (such as work and/or internship certificates, evidence of prior scholarships, proof of involvement in extracurricular activities, recommendation letters, and (expired) admissions to a German master's program).

Create the application materials
Documents should be translated if necessary. (unless they are already in German or English).
Scan paper documents into PDF format, excluding references. Please be aware that the site only accepts PDF file uploads.
Upload the PDF versions of the application form and other supporting papers to the portal. The document published in the original language should be uploaded along with any necessary translations.
Upload your application materials, then submit them online.
